A sight for sore eyes indeed. Some of us thought we’d never see this day. Steve Rodriguez, the miracle-worker that every New York City skateboarder owes a big thank you to, blessed us with a video roll-through of what the rebuilt Big Banks section of the Brooklyn Banks is looking like currently. Check out the video and Steve’s words below:
“I used to skate the Brooklyn Banks pretty much every day after work up until 2010 when they were closed off for what seemed like forever. Getting to roll on those bricks yesterday after work felt like a dream. Can’t wait until the space is officially open most likely later this spring once it’s completely finished. Took so many people to make this happen and I am super appreciative but have to give a special shout out to @hi_rok_o @shikirodriguez_ Rosa Chang and my team at our non profit @gothamparknyc • @tonyhawk and the team at @theskateparkproject • @justin_villano_ and the team at @vansskate • Meera Joshi, Former Deputy Mayor • @yating28 , Chief public realm officer • James Archer, Senior Advisor – Parks and Transportation • Ydanis Rodriguez, NYC DOT Commissioner. THANK YOU! #brooklynbanks Small banks next!!!”
The space looks absolutely incredible, maybe smoother that it ever was. You may remember the Big Banks were skateable for a summer back in 2017, but the Small Banks have been blocked off for decades. 2025 is gonna be a hot summer!
