The Ben Raemers Foundation continues to absolutely kill it on its mission to bring more mental health awareness to skateboarding and their latest installment of the ‘SMiLe Interview’ series features the one and only Andrew Brophy.
Brophy has always been known for his power, style, and all-around good energy—both on and off the board—and in the video below, he really opens up in a way that’s refreshingly honest as his discusses his experiences with mental health, alcohol, skateboarding, and the balance of life as a father. There’s something everyone can relate to here and it’s actually super inspiring. Press play:

Every human deals with anxiety in their own unique way, and knowing that skating has become a key part of how Brophy manages his mental health and life responsibilities is super humbling to hear. Again, most of us can probably relate to that feeling one way or another.

I also really respect and admire that Brophy talks so candidly about his struggles with alcohol, what led him to carve out a new path, and how he’s found peace through staying active, being present, and embracing fatherhood.
The conversation doesn’t feel anything like an interview, either, which I really like. It sort of just feels like catching up with an old friend who’s lived through it and is down to share so others don’t feel alone in it. We could all use a little more of that, you know?

Great skater, great dad, great human—Brophy’s the real deal. Simple as that. And that’s what makes this series from The Ben Raemers Foundation so powerful. Every guest brings something honest and unique, and Brophy’s episode is no exception.
